Saronic makes history with first-ever drone boat rescue in combat; saves crew of drowned US helicopter near Hormuz |
|
| Just 10 weeks after becoming operational, the Corsair, a 24-foot autonomous boat, rescued two US Army Apache helicopter crew members after their aircraft was shot down near the Strait of Hormuz. The Corsair located the downed aviators and brought them to a pickup point, where a crewed helicopter completed the recovery. This appears to be the first time a sea drone has saved people in combat. The rescue follows Saronic’s $1.75 billion Series D at a $9.25 billion valuation. The company produces up to 500 Corsairs a year as part of a $392 million Navy contract. Read the story → |

| How AI is impacting how LPs think about venture capital
The Wall Street Journal’s VC newsletter recently turned to Alpha Partners Managing Partner Steve Brotman to ask how the AI boom is reshaping what limited partners want from venture capital. Steve’s take: LPs no longer ask if they should be in venture, they ask where and when in venture they actually get paid. The answer, Steve argues, is moving later in the lifecycle, and the reason is simple math. Once a company has already reached a large valuation, it has a much better chance of crossing the next threshold than an earlier-stage company, and AI is amplifying that skew. Read more → |
